Statement on Election Financing

I have opposed the current method of funding elections for as long as I can remember because I believe it is inherently un-democratic and only serves to keep those who have power in the seat of power. It also enables those with big money connection to corporations to purchase far more media coverage than those candidates not blessed by the special interests. The Fair Elections Now Act is a step in the right direction as it will provide for some funding for those who are not supported by rich donors and I support its passage. However, if we are to have true democracy in our nation, eventually ALL elections should be publicly financed while private funding should be barred completely and every candidate who can demonstrate reasonable support would have equal access to media outlets.
